Many exciting new books are coming out this fall, from fantasy, to romance, to horror, particularly for teens.
In fantasy, some of the most anticipated releases are Celestial Monsters by Aiden Thomas and Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune. Somewhere Beyond The Sea, which releases September 10th, is a sequel to the beloved cozy fantasy The House In The Cerulean Sea, a story of acceptance, and finding your place in an unwelcoming world told through lovable characters. In the upcoming sequel, the characters learn to not only accept themselves and their differences but to fight for their right to be themselves. Celestial Monsters by Aiden Thomas came out September 3rd and is the latest addition to The Sunbearer Trials duology. The books focus on the protagonist Teo’s journey as a demigod (or semidiose) growing his magical abilities and relationships. The first book features Hunger Games-esque competitions between 12 to 18-year-old semidioses with the end goal of one semidiose being sacrificed to ward off the evil obsidian gods, told against a backdrop of stellar worldbuilding and Mexican mythology. The second book takes place after Teo can’t bring himself to sacrifice one of his fellow semidioses, leading to a journey of budding romance and exciting fantasy adventure.
For readers looking for an enemies-to-lovers romance, On Guava and Grudge by Alexis Castellanos came out Sept. 3rd. The main character Ana Maria Ybarra works at her family’s traditional restaurant, but tensions rise when she starts to fall for Miguel, part of the rival local Cuban family restaurant.
Star Wars fans should look out for Tears of the Nameless by George Mann on September 24th, an upcoming book in the Star Wars series The High Republic; the novel features Jedi Knight Reath Silas on an exciting and adventure-packed mission to explore new mysterious creatures known only as “The Nameless.”
With Halloween on the horizon, fall releases aren’t complete without some spooky books. In the thriller Let's Split Up by Bill Wood a friend group of teens attempt to solve the murder of their school’s “it” couple. The novel is filled with tension, mystery, engaging friendship dynamics, and a little romance. For those looking for something a little closer to home, Nowhere Ohio, with a September 13th release date is about a 14-year-old teenage boy in 1980's Akron, Ohio. He discovers a prophecy leaving him convinced that members of his town will turn into werewolves on the full moon, which seems to be the only explanation for the mysterious animal attacks plaguing the town. This book has something for everyone with its blend of horror and coming of age.
I hope with the help of this list, at some point this fall you get a chance to curl up with a good book. Happy fall and happy reading!
