Wawa Review

The Deerfield/Symmes area is home to various kinds of stores and restaurants for anything that anyone might need. The area also boasts plenty of grocery stores and places to shop, from Asian specialty stores to standard supermarkets. But one new addition in the area stands out: Wawa. Usually, Wawa stores were restricted to the East Coast in the past, having originated in Pennsylvania. Now, the company has begun branching out past the coast and into the Midwest. Wawa takes its gas stations to a new level compared to other brands like Shell or Speedway. Of course, they have the staples like chips, snacks, candy, and drinks of almost every kind. But they also have fresh-cut fruit and salad, snacks for those on special diets, and even a morning coffee station with caffeinated and non-caffeinated options!

But that doesn’t even come close to the real treasure of Wawa. That very treasure is the ordering station for fresh meals! Unlike many gas stations and quick-stop stores, Wawa has a kiosk in every location where you can make your own orders for food! These orders can range anywhere from breakfast items to special smoothies, hoagies, presses, and even whole dinner items such as pizza and burgers! But often enough, places with gimmicks like this usually come at a cost, like efficiency, cost, or quality. But Wawa truly delivers with all three of those concerns being covered. After ordering myself a loaded wrap, a bag of takis and some chocolate, the total only came out to about $11.50! But Wawa isn’t only good for their food; the people working are kind and friendly, and their gas prices are hard to beat compared to surrounding places, often offering gas for a fair amount cheaper.

But what’s the catch with Wawa? Surely the whole thing can’t just be a practical goldmine for fast food, can it? Well, no; the one downside found with Wawa is the size of the store itself and the efficiency. While ordering is cheap and the food is good, it isn’t always the quickest to get out, especially with large or complex orders. It’s important to keep in mind that the people making it are human beings who do get tired and aren’t always 100% full of energy. The only other issue is the range of what they offer. When not specifically looking at the fresh foods aisle, the store is full of promotions or unhealthy food and drinks like big-name brand chips and various sodas. But if you’re looking for a quick, cheap bite to eat, and health isn’t a major concern, I would heavily recommend Wawa!
