Takis is a Mexican chip brand that is widely known for its intense heat and spice. The chips were originally founded in 1999 and made their way into the United States in 2006. They blew up in popularity during the pandemic, putting social media in a chokehold. For my Takis Taste Test, I loaded up on Takis and got to munching. The flavors that were on the menu were Fuego, Blue Heat, Intense Nacho, Nacho Xplosion, and, last but not least, Guacamole.
Leading off is the poster child, Fuego. This is the original Takis flavor and the identity of the brand. This chip has incredible flavor, but what is most notable is the spice. The spice is out of this world and can catch you off guard. The spice, at times, can be too much to handle, and you pretty much need a drink next to you in order to munch continuously. Even with the high spice level, this chip was outstanding, and I found myself finishing the bag- and my drink- in one sitting. This is a wonderful chip, and I would highly recommend it. I give it a 9.6/10
Next up is the Blue Heat. Blue Heat is also a main seller, and many consumers prefer this chip over Fuego. The Blue Heat also packs a punch with the spice, and it has the same amount of heat as Fuego. The flavor on this one was good, but I wouldn’t pick it over Fuego. That doesn’t make this a bad chip; this was my second favorite. It really comes down to preference between Fuego and Blue Heat. Blue Heat is still a great chip; I give it a 9.2/10.
The third Takis flavor that I tried was the Intense Nacho. This one goes in a different direction than the other Takis flavor, as it dials back the spice level, making this flavor unique. This Takis focuses more on the cheese flavor rather than knocking your socks off with the heat. This chip flavor was the first miss. Takis chips stand out due to the spice. Without the spice, this chip has to compete with other cheesy chips like Cheez -Itz and Lays. It's a decent chip, but nothing stands out. I would rate this a 6.3/10
The Nacho Xplosion is a better version of Intense Nacho. It builds off the flaws of the Intense Nacho and goes back to Takis fame. This one packs a punch creating a spicy cheesy combination that tastes really good, but will also leave you sweating at the end. This one is better than the Intense Nacho as it has that spice level that makes Takis stand out from other cheese chips. It's a good chip but it isn’t on the same level as the first two. I’ll give it a 8.1/10.
Last but certainly not least Guacamole. This one stands out from the rest due to the creativity. At first glance it sounds nasty, but it wasn't all bad. By no means was it good but if you're a Guacamole enjoyer you might like it. It's a really quirky chip but I don’t see myself eating this chip again. I’ll give it a 5.5/10.
