Super Bowl Preview and Prediction

The NFL season is coming to an end, with just one game left. Popular opinion on the internet would probably suggest to you that this year’s Super Bowl matchup is a bad one, or at least one people didn’t want to see. While that last part is somewhat true, it is misleading. This year’s game features the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, a rematch from just two years ago, and it could be one of the best matchups in recent memory. The last time these two franchises met, the Chiefs came out victorious in a somewhat controversial ending, seeing a questionable pass interference call end what was otherwise a great game. This time around, the matchup could be even better.

Let's start with the Eagles. The Birds are led by star running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Eagle's run game is one of the main reasons they are playing in the season's biggest game. In the NFC Championship, they became the first team to rush for 5 touchdowns in a single game. Their defense has been just as dominant, not allowing over 22 points in the entire postseason. They have been forcing turnovers at a historical rate, including multiple against the Commanders, who throughout the playoffs only turned the ball over one time before they met the Eagles. The main story to watch out for is the Eagles passing game. They’ve been elite in every level of the game except this. And in their defense, there isn’t much need to pass when Saquon has 100+ rushing yards nearly every time they step on the field. But to beat the Chiefs, they will need Hurts and wideouts, as well as AJ Brown and Devonta Smith, to at least take some pressure off Barkley and the run game.

The Chiefs are quite familiar with this setting. This is their 5th Super Bowl appearance in the last 6 years, which is unheard of. The Chiefs are of course led by star QB Patrick Mahomes and their stellar defense. The Chiefs have had a difficult time scoring points in the season, which is a cause for concern, but in their most recent game vs the Bills, the offense was rolling. Despite the defense giving up 29 points, they made a key stop late in the game to help thrust the Chiefs into the Super Bowl. The Chief’s defense has been what has gotten them this far. While they don’t blow you away with their stats, they are a tough unit to move the ball on and have one of the best coordinators in the game with coach Steve Spagnola. This team isn’t flashy, as there isn’t much star power outside of Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The big question for the Chiefs: Can they continue to dominate close games? If yes, then the winner of the game will likely reside in Missouri. I like the Chiefs to three-peat, winning 26-23.
