Student Spotlight: Calvin Lorek

Calvin Lorek (11), a student-athlete at Loveland, has earned our student spotlight for this month. Calvin has recently been very successful in football and earned a spot on the homecoming court. Calvin is loved by many, and those who don’t know him will be familiar with him after this article.

Athletic achievements: Calvin is now a 2nd-year varsity starter at defensive end on the football team and has been dominating on the field. Going into the season, Calvin received his very first Division 1 football offer from Eastern Michigan This offer set expectations of greatness for this season. Calvin has, so far, lived up to those expectations, earning 2 sacks in the week 3 game against Kings. Calvin is a dominating presence in the run game and unblockable in his pass rush.

Homecoming Court: Calvin's popularity allowed him to be nominated for this year's junior homecoming court. Calvin won the popular vote because he successfully scored a homecoming date. The date was confirmed on volleyball’s senior night when Calvin made his homecoming proposal to his date in front of friends and family. Calvin had his own float with the other junior homecoming court member during the homecoming parade and was recognized during halftime of the homecoming football game on September 20th.

Calvin is very popular among people of all ages- here’s what some people had to say about him. From Aren Dulleart (12), “I’m very proud of Calvin, seeing how hard he works and how far he has come. He is an inspiration to all those around him.” Sean Clore (10) said, “Calvin is hard-working, persevering, and a phenomenal leader on the football team.” Also, Coach Sellars (Staff Member) also known as Coach Unc, proclaims, “Calvin is a man whose passion and effort need no question. Everything he’s tasked with, he will attack with unquestionable determination.”

Calvin Interview: I asked Calvin 4 questions to get his thoughts on some very important topics. First I asked, what’s it like being D1? “Being D1 feels nice and does have its advantages, but I want more. I’m focused on being better in every aspect of life, not just sports.” Then I asked, do you like being so popular? “First of all, I’m not. It’s nice but it doesn’t define who I am as a person.” After I asked, what keeps you going each day? “Knowing that there are others that’d kill to be in my situation and knowing that there are people who are better than me.” Finally, I asked, where do you see yourself in 5 years? “Focused on getting a degree and seeing where football takes me.” Overall, Calvin is a humble king who everyone should aspire to be like.

Calvin’s success on and off the football field has earned him the student's spotlight. He’s an inspiration to many and works hard in everything he does in order to succeed.
