Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Writer: Josie ShafferJosie Shaffer

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) has a special team at Loveland High School this year called Loveland Team CoUREage 6.0. This team is making strides towards raising money and awareness for those impacted by blood cancer. Through various fundraising events and requesting donations via social media, this team is able to make significant progress toward their fundraising goal of $100,000 during the 7 week long campaign.

For people not familiar with LLS or  Loveland’s Team CoUREage, it may seem like a small fundraiser in Loveland, but this assumption is completely false. LLS not only raises money in Loveland but also all around the country. Currently, Loveland’s Team CoUREage 6.0 is working tirelessly to complete a “50 State Challenge,” which started January 27th, 2025. This challenge is to raise $20 from every state in the country, and the winner is determined by which team gets a donation from every state first. As of January 30th, 2025, the only remaining states Loveland’s team needs donations from are Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

An abundance of students take part in this campaign, so representation is not lacking. To learn more about these team members and special fundraising events take a look at Loveland’s Team CoUREage 6.0 Instagram account (@lovelandteamcoureage6.0). On that account, you can find students dedicated to making a positive impact on those affected by blood cancer, such as Kylie George (10). When asked why she takes part in the LLS campaign, George explained how “LLS means a lot to me because most people are affected by cancer at some point, and it feels great to be able to help so many people.” This reasoning works wonders for showing people the importance of participating in this campaign or simply donating to the cause because of the lasting impact it has. Even a small donation comes with a great ripple effect which can impact people who either have blood cancer or know someone who does.

If you or someone you know is interested in getting involved with Loveland’s Team CoUREage, a great way to start is by participating in fundraising events. Some upcoming events include Headshots for Hope, where Loveland’s team is partnering with local photographer Natalie Minks to raise money simply by updating your headshot, and for every updated headshot $100 is donated to the LLS cause. In addition to this fundraiser, there is also another one at Loveland Intermediate School’s cafeteria on February 15th from 6-10pm called Parents Night Out. There will be fun activities and snacks provided, and only school-aged children are allowed to come to this event (Kindergarten and up). The entry fee for the first child is $25, then $15 for a sibling with all proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

All in all, Loveland’s Team CoUREage is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of anyone impacted by the tragedy of blood cancer. To help with this cause donations are essential, as well as simple acts of service and spreading the word about what LLS is, so get involved and make a positive impact in Loveland’s community and others.
