When you think of console games, what system comes to mind? Is it PlayStation? The company has founded one of the longest currently performing console franchises in recent years, after all. Their history goes back over 30 years to the original PS console, which was released in 1994. For decades, creators from across the globe made history in the form of video games, sparking young minds and forming new job opportunities along the way! Not to mention, the quality of these games has only gotten better in recent years. With games of countless genres out right now, it can be hard to decide what to play for new fans or even those just looking to pick something new up. That is exactly what this article is here for: to help those in that very position. Not every single amazing game will be mentioned, given how many there are, but have no fear, there won’t be a single game here that is anything less than top quality!
Now there are countless amazing options to play on PlayStation, especially with the PlayStation Plus subscription out at prices of $10, $15, and $18, depending on the subscription level chosen.
Assuming the console being used is the PlayStation 5, there are many amazing action-based games! My top pick has to be a tie between God of War and The Ghost of Tsushima. The quality of the visual designs for both series is top of the line, without losing complexity in the stories. With God of War bringing brutal combat in an emotion-packed story of grief, strength, and triumph, and Ghost of Tsushima bringing similar emotion in a stealth and precision-based battle style, both stories highlight different sides of the same coin.
But for those who are into more story-driven games, Insomniac’s Spider-Man series is a must-play. Each game has an amazing and special story on its own, and when put together. The movement and flow within the game, along with all the small details, turn the moment into a special experience rather than just time spent playing another game. Each game also has its own mechanics for fighting, each one like the others but independent of what abilities are provided, which tie into the character’s personality and design. This game is a guaranteed favorite for fans of story and action.
But what about the people who aren’t into action games, or those who want to play something calmer and more relaxing? In that case, the indie game Sword of the Sea falls right into that category! It’s not long, only being about 2.5 to 3.5 hours in length, which is minuscule compared to The Ghost of Tsushima’s 25-hour length. Even taking the short length into account, the game is still filled with beautiful graphics, smooth gameplay and visuals, and a story hidden within tablets across the map for players to find.
Of course, that doesn’t nearly cover everything, not even a fraction, but that highlights part of the beauty of video games. There isn’t going to be a game in every genre for one person to enjoy, but there is at least one genre that anyone can enjoy. Explore, adventure, find your stride, find your niche. When you do, surely there will be a series for you.
