Kentucky vs Louisville CBB

The college basketball season has begun, and with it came an in-state rivalry game between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Louisville Cardinals. Entering the game, the number nine-ranked Kentucky Wildcats were 2-0 with wins against Nicholls and Valparaiso, but they’re toughest matchup was ahead of them. The number twelve-ranked Louisville Cardinals also started their season 2-0 with wins against South Carolina State and Jackson State.

The game tipped off, and both teams came out firing in the early stages. Threes were being drilled from both teams, and it was back and forth for the first ten minutes of the game. Louisville found success from three catching fire and sending KFC Yum! Center into raptures. Kentucky was able to hang in there until 6 minutes remained in the half, when Louisville took the lead by 10. Kentucky would claw its way back to keep the game competitive; however, Louisville still had a commanding lead heading into the half, 53-46. Freshman Mikel Brown Jr, the point guard for Louisville, had an outstanding first half. Brown scored 20 points and was scoring at all levels. He shot the three-ball wonderfully and was scoring around the rim.

The second half started, and it was all Louisville. Kentucky didn’t have an answer for Louisville as they were red hot. Louisville was shooting the three at an incredible clip and dragged the lead all the way to 20 with 12:24 remaining in the game. Kentucky didn’t go away. With ten minutes remaining in the game, it was starting to look grim for the Wildcats. Kentucky, in need of a spark, got one. Sophomore Collin Chandler hit back-to-back threes, starting the Kentucky comeback. With four minutes remaining, Chandler stepped up and nailed a three, cutting the lead to four. When Louisville needed a bucket, they went to Mikel Brown. Brown drove, got the foul and the bucket, and cashed in on the and 1. Kentucky went down, made a layup, and called timeout. With 1:24 remaining in the game, Louisville led 95-88. Kentucky’s next possessions would come up empty, and Louisville would take this game 96-88.

This game was intense as Mikel Brown Jr had himself a game, dropping 29 points, and was electric during the first half of the game, dropping 20 in the first half alone. Kentucky guard Denzel Aberdeen led the Wildcats with 26 and had some clutch buckets when Kentucky needed it most. Kentucky shot themselves in the foot with 14 turnovers. Otega Oweh led the Wildcats with 5 turnovers. The Louisville Cardinals as a team had just 6. This game seemed like it was over when Kentucky was down twenty with just 12 minutes remaining, but Kentucky never went away and played until the final buzzer.
