Fall Book Recommendations

The best season to read is here. With the leaves falling and the weather cooling, there is nothing better than cozying up with a great book. Here are five great contenders to add to your bookshelves this fall.

We are starting off strong with The Secret History by Donna Tartt, the book known by readers as the perfect fall read. This classic novel is narrated by one of six elitist college students in a clique who commit a murder. The crime leads to secrets coming up, and ultimately, the students’ downfalls as elitists. The story greatly represents social classes, isolation, and the connection between beauty and evil.

Up next is The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston. This mix of romance and literary fiction follows Clementine, living in her recently deceased aunt’s apartment that can travel seven years into the past or future, at random. Continuously, Clementine meets her love interest, Iwan, in these slips of time, unable to meet him again. The plot, set in New York City during the fall, makes this the perfect, cozy romance we all need.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides is a great thriller for this spooky season. The book follows a wife, Alicia, who just murdered her husband, and now does not speak. Alicia’s criminal psychotherapist, Theo Faber, is eager to uncover Alicia’s motive for the violence. In doing so, he learns about all the dark turns Alicia’s life had to offer. This book has an amazing plot twist at the end that will leave everyone shocked for days.

The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a great contender to add to your fall reads this year. This young-adult mystery follows Cassie, a seventeen year old who has been taken in by the FBI to solve infamous cold cases, and a group of teenagers she’s been sent to live with who have also been recruited by the FBI like Cassie. If you enjoy this, don’t fret because there are three other books in this mystery series.

One of the greatest gothics of all time, Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier, has the perfect fall vibe for any reader. To sum it up quite nicely, this novel follows an unnamed woman who just married a widowed man. As she moves into his estate, she realizes that her husband’s former wife is ready to haunt her, and her husband. This story is a great proof that legacies can last lifetimes.

Any of these five books are fantastic options to pick up this fall, whether you’re up for a thriller, a romance, or a mix of everything. There are only two months left in the year, so let’s crush our reading goals with one of these books this fall!
